Night Sweats – Sleep Hyperhidrosis is the profuse sweating that occurs during sleep. Patients who suffer from this usually complain about excessive sweating during sleep. The patient may or may not have excessive sweating during waking hours. Check the Major causes and Treatment of excessive sweating. 

Important Causes of Night Sweats

Menopause is the most common cause of night sweats among women in middle age. They feel  hot flashes that accompany menopause can occur at night and cause sweating. Idiopathic hyperhidrosis is the next reason which is very rare. In which body chronically produces too much sweat without any identifiable medical cause.

Infections like  Tuberculosis, bacterial infections, endocarditis (inflammation of the heart valves), osteomyelitis (inflammation in the bones), and abscesses can cause night sweats. HIV infection most of the time cause night Sweats. Cancers like lymphoma most of the time manifest this. Most of the time this associated with unexplained weight loss and fevers.

Medications like Antidepressant medications causes night sweats in 8% to 22% persons who takes this. Other psychiatric drugs have also been associated with this problem. Drugs like aspirin and acetaminophen, can sometimes lead to sweating. Hypoglycemia is a very dangerous cause of night sweating. It is usually seen in people who taking insulin or oral diabetes medications may have hypoglycemia at night. 

Hormone disorders also sometime responsible for night sweats like pheochromocytoma, carcinoid syndrome, and hyperthyroidis. Neurologic conditions like  autonomic dysreflexia, posttraumatic syringomyelia,stroke, and autonomic neuropathy may cause increased sweating and may lead to night sweats.

Treat the underlying cause of the sweating.
